Castle in Central Bohemia near Dobříš

Castle in Central Bohemia, located about 50 kilometres south of Prague. The late Baroque complex developed from a medieval fortress. Towards the end of the 19th century, the chateau was extended once again and remodelled in the neo-Renaissance style. In the 1920s it became known as the summer residence of the then President of Czechoslovakia.

It is an important cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The main building features two imposing quadrangular structures connected by a narrow central section with an arcade.

The representative rooms in the chateau have retained their original character, and the ground floor has been largely reconstructed. Much work is still outstanding.  The castle has 40 rooms and covers an area of about 4,200 m².  The associated park is 4 hectares in size.  Also belonging to the castle are farm buildings, a separate residential building and a chapel.
